McClymonds tops Castlemont for 13th Silver Bowl title in a row
Jaivian Thomas and Ferrari Miller Jr. each score two TDs for Mack
Jaivian Thomas and Ferrari Miller Jr. scored two touchdowns each as McClymonds beat Castlemont, 45-12, to capture its 13th consecutive Lou Jones Silver Bowl title on Saturday night at Fremont High School.
The Warriors, with four state titles since 2016, advance to the Northern California title game (division, opponent and game location will be determined Sunday). McClymonds won last season’s CIF 3-A title against Birmingham-Lake Balboa.
Castlemont became the first Oakland Athletic League team this season to score two touchdowns against McClymonds, and the point differential of 33 was McClymonds’ narrowest OAL victory this season. Castlemont advanced to its first Silver Bowl since 2016 by defeating Tech 20-8 in the semifinal. McClymonds beat Fremont 60-0 in its semifinal. Fremont is the last team other than McClymonds to win a Silver Bowl (18-6 against Tech in 2009).
Isaac Espinosa opened the scoring for Mack with a 35-yard field goal, and Jaivian Thomas scored on a 12-yard run for a 10-0 lead. Castlemont responded with a 7-yard touchdown run from Anthony Ellis, and suddenly McClymonds’ run of OAL supremacy seemed in jeopardy. Miller then scored on 45- and 35-yard runs, and Thomas tacked on an 81-yard TD run as McClymonds led 31-6 at halftime.
Quarterbacks Deontae Faison and Daniel Parsons provided second-half highlights, with Faison hitting McClymonds receiver Tayshon Clayton for a 45-yard TD strike and Parsons hitting Castlemont receiver Jaidyn West for a 50-yard TD pass. Redmani Albert provided Mack’s final TD on a 3-yard run.
